Create a World Tips and Tricks: Best Practice to Avoid Heartache

Create a World is a fun tool to use, but if you build a world feet first without taking certain things into consideration, it can be a very heartbreaking experience. It's not uncommon to come across many issues, problems and major setbacks that will have you throwing up your hands and quitting CAW after weeks and even months of work. In fact, many simmers have done just this thing.

It doesn't have to be this way. If you learn the following tips and tricks and keep them to heart, you can avoid all the headaches that so many others have experienced when building your world.

Create a World Tips and Tricks: Troubleshooting Lag

One of the most upsetting problems you'll ever come across when playing a world you created is terrible lag. By lag, I don't mean minor freezing. I mean the game freezing every few minutes for 30 seconds or longer, to the point where it's unplayable.

When this happens, some people think that it's either a case of bad luck or something they can't help. But believe it or not, lag is not something that springs out of nowhere. It is usually the result of specific causes, each which are easy to pinpoint and resolve. If you're currently tearing your hair out with frustration, let's take a look at the major causes of lag and how you can troubleshoot it.

Fixed Brooklyn Brownstone Lot for Oceanview

I was playing Oceanview last night and noticed a major goof I had never, ever noticed before. Apparently, the Brooklyn Brownstone lot had the windows put in the wrong way and I never really finished the backyard.

Windows are wrong!
I don't know how I missed it because I've playtested this lot before, but stranger things have happened, I guess. In any event, I have the corrected version online at my studio: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=8533181. Just bulldoze the current one and replace.

Here's a wider shot of the street so you know exactly where to look for it. It's opposite the mini-plaza with the science fountain and flags, which is next to the small community garden:

Okay, you may be wondering what the big deal is; the windows are in backwards--so what? Well, Pogo the dog, the cute little dog that lives here, showed me. When the windows are in backwards, either dogs or sims that want to look out the window will go outside the building, since the "inside" of the window is outside. Very annoying or stupid funny, depending on how you look at it! :-P

New Oceanview Family: Home for Lost Girls

The Home for Lost Girls is a family I wasn't able to place in Oceanview at the time I completed it. However, I have placed them in my studio for download if you would like to add them.

More Pics of Oceanview (Spoilers!)

Below are some additional pictures of Oceanview. They involve some spoilers containing certain families and special areas of the world that I want people to discover on their own, so if you don't want to be spoiled, please don't look!

Yes, there are rainbows in Oceanview! :-)

The TS4 Demo: First Impressions

Well, if you don't know it by now, the demo for The Sims 4 is officially out now, available at Origin. I've been playing with it a lot over the past few days and if you're curious, here are my thoughts on and impressions of Create a Sim.
